The Logic is hiring a senior editor to help lead our growing newsroom and elevate our coverage of Canadian business and technology.

About the role
The senior editor will help The Logic deliver Canada’s most authoritative and compelling coverage of business and technology. Their job may include managing reporters, assigning and handling enterprise news stories, analysis, investigations, columns and features, and working on our growing suite of newsletters.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced newsroom leader who can help elevate our business coverage in Canada. They will be adept at editing business news copy on deadline, developing and editing features, overseeing investigations and beat reporting and planning editorial coverage. A creative thinker, they will be able to make our stories more readable, resonant and entertaining. They will be comfortable with numbers and data, and will have experience working with reporters who use confidential sources. They will have a working familiarity with Canadian media law. And they will be eager to help build a collegial, collaborative, goal-oriented newsroom that treats all its members with respect.
This is a full-time staff job. It is ideally based in Toronto, where The Logic offers a hybrid work arrangement. An exceptional candidate may be based elsewhere in Canada.
What you'll do:
  • Assign and edit news stories, analysis, columns and features, and work on The Logic’s growing suite of newsletter products
  • Act as a mentor to reporters, helping them generate unique story ideas and break exclusive news about Canadian business and technology
  • Support reporters in cultivating sources and maintaining contacts, filing access-to-information requests and finding news in public documents and disclosures
  • Help recruit, hire and manage editorial staff as The Logic’s newsroom grows
  • Be an active partner in The Logic’s virtual and in-person live journalism events

Who you are:
  • You have strong news judgment, a passion for great journalism and a track record of producing it
  • You have experience editing news and features about business and technology
  • You are committed to accuracy, excellence and the rigorous pursuit of facts
  • You’re adept at editing copy on deadline and familiar with Canadian Press Style
  • You’re innovative and comfortable working with a range of writing styles and formats, while promoting diversity of thought and representation in storytelling
  • You have experience managing people in a newsroom setting, including a track record of building and/or supporting a healthy, inclusive work culture, helping teammates reach new professional heights and working across departments to achieve shared goals
  • You’re organized, focused and able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • You have an adaptive and entrepreneurial mindset
  • You’re a team player who wants to grow with a startup and who will enjoy helping where needed at a dynamic company
