As part of the collaborative and performance driven Advancement Office, the Senior Development Officer will work under the general direction of the Director of Advancement. As Senior Development Officer, you will contribute to Leadership Annual Giving, Major Gift and Gift Planning fundraising initiatives across the Faculty.

In this role, you will collaborate with colleagues in the Advancement Office, across the Faculty, and throughout the Division of University Advancement to develop meaningful relationships, increase donors’ engagement with the Faculty, and solicit donations that will advance the priorities of the Faculty and strengthen the Faculty’s donor pipeline.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
  • Determining the appropriate involvement of members of the university community and volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation and recognition process
  • Meeting face-to-face with current and potential donors to discuss giving interests and opportunities
  • Identifying, evaluating and recommending the necessary steps to bring the prospect closer to making a major financial commitment to the University
  • Developing tailored fundraising initiatives that support strategic initiatives
  • Developing marketing/communications strategies that support fundraising campaigns and programs
  • Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
  • Writing briefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to track donor interaction

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a non-profit development office. Experience with leadership annual giving and/or major gift fundraising experience in a post-secondary environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of donor relationships at all levels, including one-on-one donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Proven track record of soliciting and closing gifts at the major gift level.
  • Passion for individual giving fundraising techniques, including face to face solicitation and tailored philanthropic strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), with an ability to engage and influence a wide range of community members and build long-term relationships.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively with individuals of affluence and influence.
  • Proven ability to motivate others (volunteers, team members, donors, etc.).
  • Strong team player who values collaboration. Demonstrated proposal and presentation skills.
  • Evidence of leadership, initiative, tact, diplomacy, attention to detail and creativity.
  • Possess a high level of integrity, donor confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information, tasks and relationships.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and excel in a results-oriented environment by meeting established personal and team goals.
  • Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 and donor databases.

USW Pay Band 15 -- $93,752 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $119,892. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
