Job Description

From offices in downtown Vancouver and Victoria, WA Architects Ltd. provides a full range of architectural, planning and interior design services. With more than forty years of practice in Western Canada, our firm is widely recognized for expertise in retail, residential, mixed-use, office and senior health-care projects. We are dedicated to high quality design, exceptional client service and the incorporation of sustainable design principles in our projects. For our Vancouver office, we are seeking a Senior Designer to take the lead on the design process for a variety of project types with the following required skills and expertise: Minimum 8 years’ relevant architectural and master planning design experience in the Canadian Architectural Industry (BC experience preferred). At least 15 years of overall professional experience in the architectural industry. Graduate of a certified Building Technology or Architectural program in a professionally recognized institution. Proven ability to take the lead in Schematic Design and Design Development of a project. Multi-disciplinary experience, specifically high-rises, townhomes, mixed-use residential and multi-family residential, both new designs and renovations Demonstrated expertise in building technology including wood frame, steel and concrete construction. Advanced skills in AutoCAD and Sketchup. Working knowledge of Revit would be an asset. In-depth knowledge of the BC Building Code Part 3, Part 9 and ASHRAE 90.1 (understanding of NECB would be an asset). Understanding of sustainable design considerations. Demonstrate design sensibilities while being pragmatic. Knowledgeable in zoning, detailing and constructability. Experienced with conducting client presentations, making design recommendations and adjusting designs in accordance with client needs and government/safety standards. Ability to effectively coordinate with all stakeholders including: engineers, designers, and contractors Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral. Ability to meet challenges head-on, manage priorities and meet tight deadlines while demonstrating flexibility and a high level of resourcefulness. Experience or willingness to mentor junior team members would be an asset. Ability to articulate alignment with our WA Guiding Principles Cultivated problem solving skills and self-motivated to move projects forward. Salary range for this role is $105,000-$130,000, depending on experience. What we offer: Engaging and energetic work environment with an approachable management/ownership team.
