Working Business Language : English. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English. As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

As a key member of Wawanesa’s Special Investigations Unit, the Claims Investigator Sr. contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of protecting our members and communities from fraud and improving operational outcomes by investigation of claims with indicators of potential fraud for all property and casualty claims.

This position will require occasional travel (less than 10%) for fieldwork.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate potential fraud indicators on referred claims and develop investigation plans, including analyzing data to identify potential patterns and inconsistencies
  • Conduct investigations in accordance with company policies, procedures and best practices by collecting and analyzing all relevant evidence, including conducting virtual and in person statements with key parties
  • Compose thorough and accurate investigation reports and provide ongoing updates on the status of investigations to claims teams in a timely, respectful and collaborative manner
  • Maintain accurate claims system records based on company standards and policies
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with law enforcement, investigative organizations, and other key stakeholders
  • Attend court proceedings if required to testify to support investigative findings
  • Remain up-to-date on fraud trends and best investigative tactics in order to continuously improve effectiveness
  • Serve as a resource and provide training and consultation on fraud detection, prevention, and investigations
  • Comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements
  • Occasional travel for fieldwork required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of claims adjusting, examining, or investigative experience
  • Post-secondary education and/or completed CIP or equivalent property and casualty insurance industry designation
  • Ability to make excellent and well justified decisions in complex and high pressure situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a diverse team and to respectfully and effectively communicate with members, law enforcement, and other key stakeholders
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills, including demonstrated proficiency in analyzing and using data effectively to enhance operational outcomes
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle required
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset
