Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW
Join the NCC’s Engineering team and contribute to building a more sustainable and accessible capital that will be a source of pride for all Canadians. Be part of the Centre of expertise division whose primary mandate is to be a creative partner in innovation and striving for excellence in design.

Reporting to the Chief Environmental and Civil Engineering, you will work on a wide range of civil and municipal scope projects including but not limited to shoreline rehabilitation, pathway and parkway design and rehabilitation, underground service planning and design, etc.

You will plan and develop work plans, studies and specification documents and provide civil and municipal engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders. You will collaborate with NCC Project Managers, federal, provincial, and municipal government departments on multi-million-dollar projects. You will also represent the team in division meetings and working committees.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Civil or Municipal Engineering.

LICENCE
Must be licensed or registered as a professional member in Civil Engineering in the Provinces of Ontario or Quebec or
Must be eligible and meet all requirements to apply to either of the provinces if not already licensed by providing written confirmation from their current licensing organization that they are eligible for a license transfer.

EXPERIENCE
Five to eight years of experience holding progressively significant responsibilities in Civil, or Municipal Engineering.
• Experience working on landscape architecture, civil and infrastructure projects such as, but not limited to wetlands, shorelines, drainage structures, bridges, pathways, roads, parks, national monuments.

KNOWLEDGE
• Of codes, standards, and best practices relevant to Civil, or Municipal Engineering.
• Of contract management principles and procedures.

ABILITIES
• To negotiate and resolve disputes and monitor the work of consultants and contractors.
• To work in a multidisciplinary team in an environment with overlapping responsibilities between different units.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite software and BIM.
• To communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

ASSETS
• Master’s degree in engineering.
• Experience with construction projects for heritage buildings and heritage landscapes.
• Other professional designations and/or Project Management memberships.
• Experience with road / highway drainage and storm water management design and analysis.
• Experience with open channel 2D hydraulic modeling.
• Experience with feature specific water balance analysis.
• Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, including EPA SWMM, PCSWMM, Visual OTTHYMO, SWMHYMO, HEC-RAS
• Familiarity with Civil3D.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Involves visit to construction project sites where protective equipment such as hard hats and safety shoes are required. Involves standing, walking and navigating various work terrains.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
• Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB, unilingual English or French.
• Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
• The National Capital Commission offers a hybrid and flexible work environment, all employees are currently asked to work on-site at least two (2) days per week.
