Your role involves collaborating with a team to offer diverse financing solutions, playing a crucial part in the evolution and growth of the real estate financing sector. The role breakdown is as follows:65% Transaction Review & Analysis20% Portfolio Analysis & Account Management15% Process Improvement & Ad Hoc THE TASKS Underwriting Transaction Review & AnalysisMay include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:Analyzing and assessing credit risk for commercial mortgage loan applications based on financial statements, credit history, and market trends.Reviewing property appraisals, market analysis, and other due diligence documents to ensure the viability and profitability of the proposed mortgage.Conducting detailed financial analysis including cash flow, debt service coverage ratios, and loan-to-value ratios.Collaborating with loan processors and originators to gather necessary documentation and information for underwriting decisions.Preparing and presenting loan approval packages with risk assessments and recommendations to loan committees or senior management.Ensuring compliance with company policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements in the loan approval process.Monitoring and reviewing loan performance post-closing to identify any early signs of potential issues. Portfolio Analysis & Account Management May include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:Conducting regular analysis of the loan portfolio to assess credit risk, concentration risk, and compliance with lending policies.Reviewing and monitoring the financial performance of borrowers and properties within the portfolio to identify potential risks or opportunities.Maintaining relationships with borrowers, providing ongoing account management and addressing any loan servicing issues.Collaborating with credit analysts and loan officers to perform annual or periodic reviews of accounts.Preparing portfolio reports and updates for senior management, highlighting key trends, risks, and performance metrics.Assisting in the development and implementation of strategies for portfolio growth, diversification, and risk management.Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies in all aspects of portfolio management and account servicing. THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE PREVIEW By Month 1:• Quickly acclimated to the company's underwriting models, leveraging their previous experience in underwriting and real estate, including mastering Excel-based processes.• Begun leveraging their bilingual capabilities to support the Quebec market, aiming for basic operational communication if not already fluent.• Deeply dived into bridge loan products, focusing on unique aspects relevant to the bilingual market.By Month 3:• Completed the underwriting process for their first loan from start to finish, demonstrating an understanding of the company's specific criteria and approach.• Established stronger connections with the team and the Quebec originator, showing progress in bilingual communication.By Month 6:• Operated independently with minimal oversight, showcasing confidence and proficiency in the role.• Started to share insights and guidance with peers or junior team members, especially in areas requiring bilingual expertise.• Begun making strategic suggestions based on observed market and operational insights, potentially touching on bilingual market expansions.By Month 12:• Led or significantly contributed to innovative solutions, including product enhancements or operational efficiencies. Started structuring deals or engaging in activities that require deeper market insight and customer engagement.• Actively participated in strategic planning, contributing to long-term goals, including bilingual market strategies and team growth.• Depending on their inclination towards people management or specialization, taken on mentoring responsibilities or focused on niche areas of underwriting, such as construction or regional specialization.
