Job Description

For 45 years, Park Property Management Inc. (“PPMI”) has been providing affordable, well-maintained rental accommodations, offering both quality and value. The company’s properties are managed with pride in the pursuit of long-term relationships with all residents. PPMI has grown through a combination of acquisitions and development. The company has commenced major development projects that will significantly increase the asset base. The company portfolio predominantly currently includes residential apartments with come commercial units in buildings located across the Greater Toronto Area and in other Southern Ontario cities. We are looking for a Senior Accountant who is an analytical, detail oriented individual to join our team at our corporate head office location in Markham, Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for certain of PPMI’s portfolio of companies. This position will help oversee financial reporting and analysis of the portfolio of companies; manage related internal and external relationships; manage risk, compliance and all other critical components of the finance function including forecasting, budgeting, capital structure and taxation. This individual will be hands on in managing the portfolio of companies. Position responsibilities include:• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and related journal entries, and reconcile cashbook file • Prepare and enter journal entries for payroll and general adjustments, review general ledgers and trial balances • Prepare and file HST remittances • Code corporate invoices for entry • Prepare budget files and required forms and schedules • Run building and company reports to identify any unusual/outstanding items, and analysis of fluctuations from budget • Reconciliation of intercompany accounts • Reconciliation of GL accounts to A/R and A/P sub ledgers • Account analysis for capitalized assets and special maintenance • Prepare year end working paper files and financial statements in accordance with ASPE • Support external auditors during annual audit – respond to inquiries, investigate and explain discrepancies • Prepare corporate tax returns, partnership information returns, and non-resident tax returns • Invoice industrial tenants for property taxes and insurance as required The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:• Post-secondary education in a business and/or accounting program • CPA designation, or working towards, considered an asset • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience • Technically strong in accounting principles, practices and procedures; must be well versed in ASPE • Knowledge of computer system applications related to accounting, administration and operations • Excellent customer service and communication skills • Capable of prioritizing work to meet operational timelines with excellent attention to detail and follow-up • Self-motivated, results oriented, flexible and creative • Experience in the Real Estate industry is an asset.
