Job Description
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant has full cycle accounting and finance responsibilities, encompassing monthly general ledger (G/L) journal entries, account reconciliations, monthly P&L reporting, and results analysis. The Senior Accountant works closely with both senior Finance and Operational leadership to monitor and provide understanding of business results.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, fixed asset depreciation, and prepaids.
- Monitor expense variances versus budget and prior year.
- Review monthly statements and balance sheet.
- Manage deadlines to ensure all filing and reporting requirements are met.
- Assist in budget preparations.
- Work with branch managers to determine expense variances.
- Prepare ad hoc reports.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of accounting staff.
This role requires:
- 2 - 5 years progressive accounting experience.
- Post-secondary education with an Accounting focus.
- A CPA designation (or near completion).
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of AS400 systems, considered an asset.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Highly analytical, open-minded, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Occasional travel across Canada to support various locations.
