Job Description

Venor is proud to partner with Total Transport and Rigging in their search for a Senior Accountant to join their team in Goodwood, Nova Scotia. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the CFO and work alongside a growing team. Responsible for the oversight and delivery of all traditional accounting functions across the business, the Senior Accountant will manage the general ledger in its entirety. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for account reconciliations, payroll management, credit card processing, financial reporting, tax, fixed assets, financial statements, amortization and depreciation schedules and ad hoc duties assigned by the CFO. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in the company’s financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and examine journal entries and accounts within the general ledger
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable activities, including Purchase orders, expense reports, invoicing, collections and aging reports
  • Prepare and reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly financial statements
  • Resolve billing disputes and approve vendor/subcontractor bills
  • Conduct tax (HST, GST, PST) remittances as well as CRA, WCB
  • Manage assets including depreciation and amortization
  • Oversee the payroll processing for 40 – 90 seasonal, project-based, hourly contract, and full-time salaried employees
  • Maintain files for contracts, warranties, insurance policies, and financial records
  • Audit accounts against contractual terms, budgets, and time schedules
  • Support the CFO with budgeting forecasting, reporting, and cash flow management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting regulations and internal policies
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy

As the ideal candidate, you will have gained accounting experience within an owner-operated, project-focused environment where you have acquired proficient traditional accounting skill sets. A collaborative attitude where you have had to jump in, roll up your sleeves and deliver is needed. Exceptional time management and prioritization skill sets and comfortability working both collaboratively and independently are desirable. Proficiency in using Sage 50, QuickBooks, MS Office Suite, and Payworks is essential.

As the Senior Accountant, you will contribute positively to the business growth by acting as the key member of the accounting team. A bachelor’s degree with a focus in Accounting or Finance is required, alongside at least 5 years of accounting experience within a growing business. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws is essential. Above all, excellent time management, prioritization, and communication skills are required. Experience in transportation or logistics and a CPA is desirable but not mandatory.
