Job Description

Role Responsibilities We invite you to exercise your talents and experience by joining a team of Sheriffs with the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Program. You will investigate assigned complaints at properties of alleged illegal activities such as the production, sale, or use of illegal drugs; prostitution; child sexual abuse, and gang or organized crime activities under the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Act. As a Sheriffs Branch SCAN Investigator, you will be required to function in a complex integrated law enforcement environment. Your extensive knowledge of specialized investigative techniques is essential in order to effectively conduct detailed, extensive plainclothes investigations, including the use of covert surveillance techniques and equipment, in order to obtain all available information and intelligence and compile detailed legal investigative case management files for presentation in court proceedings. You will function in a complex, sometimes rapidly-changing environment and must be able to make informed decisions based on sound investigative methods even if presented with conflicting information. Excellent interpersonal, communication, workload planning and consensus-building skills as well as a high level of professional sensitivity are just some of the traits that will contribute to your success in this role. The Red Deer positions will cover areas in and around central Alberta.
