About the position

CHN is currently seeking a Hybrid Relationship Manager & Host Ambassador located in Nanaimo, BC. As a Relationship Manager you have strong relationship-building skills and can problem-solve issues as they arise. A day might see you welcoming new students to their new community, talking to the student’s school or host family about academic or social issues, and discussing Homestay responsibilities with one of our Canadian hosts. As an integral member of our Operations Team, you’ll be using your strong communication and judgment skills daily, to help build and grow our Homestay network.

As a Host Ambassador, you will also be responsible for ensuring the overall success of homestay programs by developing a thriving host network that enhances CHN's reputation for stellar host families. Host Ambassadors qualify new and existing host parents to provide safe and supportive homes to international students while in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage relationships between internal and external stakeholders
  • Support homestay hosts, natural parents, and students in interpreting cultural practices and differences
  • Available to meet with students regularly;
  • Some travel throughout Nanaimo, and the surrounding area; 
  • Support Victoria and Vancouver (Abbotsford and Coquitlam);
  • Communicate and maintain accurate records
  • Build a supportive local community of host families
  • Support student and host family relationships throughout their program in a variety of ways
  • Deliver student orientation in person or virtually when the student arrives;
  • Respond to crisis situations in a prompt and caring manner and refer cases to health professionals where appropriate
  • Develop a local network of host families and continually develop and enhance relationships with both new and existing hosts in the region;
  • Assume custodianship for the local region/community students under the age of 18 as required (up to 100 km)
  • Travel amongst the local community and surrounding areas

The successful candidate will have

  • At least two years of homestay or related work experience
  • One-year Community College Certificate or Diploma
  • International experience including hosting students or travelling abroad (preferred)
  • Ability to plan events and comfortability with public speaking
  • Great judgement and decision-making skills while exercising a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a potential of high-stress situations
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills and experience
  • Excellent Word, Excel, Email, and Database skills
  • Ability to confidently communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to hold yourself accountable while working independently
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain relationships with both colleagues and clients

This role requires a full driver’s license and frequent access to a reliable vehicle with 2-million auto insurance liability coverage
