Job Description
The services of an experienced part-time registered nurse (RN) is urgently needed in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. The Region of Peel wants a hardworking and committed nurse to join a team of experienced medical personnel in the organization. The Registered Nurse will be reporting to the Director of Care (or designate).
Successful candidates will provide nursing/medical care in compliance with the College of Nurses Standards of Practice, procedures, administrative policies, and other applicable legislation. Job Duties and Requirements
- Apply the Nursing method or standard procedures in the provision of individualized care to residents.
- Responsible for the updating and completion as required, of the Resident Plan of Care with supervision from the multidisciplinary team as required.
- Relate pertinent resident information to members of the nursing team and details nursing care provided for each resident.
- Nurses are responsible for the safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys.
- Refer with the physician on issues concerning residents’ health and execute physician’s orders with follow-up documentation, as required.
- Function actively as a team member and leader in coordinating and supervising nursing assignments according to priorities stated on his/her shift.
- Communicate effectively and liaise with families, residents, visitors, Director of Healthcare, and other members of the team.
- Responsible for ensuring quick response to nurse call and alarm systems.
- Maintain a safe and conducive working environment by complying with proper procedures and prompt reporting of unsafe conditions.
- Complete staff incident reports form and forward to Director of Care and/or designate.
- Provide health teaching to family and residents and act as an advocate.
- Maintain cordial relationships with the residents, volunteers, staff, and visitors.
- Control and monitor the usage of medical and personal care supplies.
- Certificate in Gerontology is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of geriatric or long-term care, medical/surgical, rehabilitation, and psychiatric nursing is preferred.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- Must have communication skills in the English language (oral and written).
- Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, residents, visitors, professionals, and volunteers.
- Must be able to work without supervision and within a team structure.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills is a requirement.
- Must be physically able to carry out all delegated tasks.
