This specialization will provide you opportunities for emotional growth as you provide care to this unique patient population.About this unit:Located at Mount Sinai Hospital, this is a 30-bed unit providing comprehensive care for orthopedic oncology and trauma patients. The orthopaedic oncology population consists of patients diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called sarcoma. This is the largest multi-disciplinary program of its type in Canada. This program is unique because patients are able to receive all of their cancer care needs on one unit - from diagnosis, staging, to treatment, to cure or palliative care when required. Six beds are allocated to the inpatient administration of chemotherapy to our sarcoma population. Patients are cared for by expert oncology nurses and the allied healthcare team throughout the trajectory of their hospitalization.The orthopedic trauma population consists of patients who have suffered a fracture. These patients undergo the necessary surgical treatment for their fractures and receive professional and individualized care from the interdisciplinary team throughout their recovery.In this role you will:Provide direct patient and family centered care for orthopaedic trauma and oncology patientsCare for patients post-operatively following sarcoma resection and reconstruction with complex wounds after major surgery which can involve the use of muscle flaps, skin grafts, and vacuum assisted closurePerform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required Job Requirements Job Requirements Mandatory Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experienceCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificationCertification in provincial standardized chemotherapy and biotherapy administration through the de Souza Institute, or must be willing to complete chemotherapy certification course within 1 year of hire Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
