Work Schedule:

The successful candidate must be able to work 8 hour Day and Evening shifts between the days of Monday to Sunday inclusive of holidays.

Responsibilities

As a registered nurse you will become an integral member of the interprofessional team responsible for the comprehensive care of Medical Day Unit patients. You will practice in an environment where the emphasis is on professional practice and customer satisfaction.

Using your clinical expertise, you will, in collaboration with the interprofessional team, be responsible for comprehensive assessment, care planning and patient education. In addition, you will utilize your demonstrated clinical leadership skills, and your well developed analytical, problem solving, delegation and interpersonal skills to assist you in the provision of quality patient/family centred care. Specific areas of responsibilities will include:

Accessing indwelling venous devices (i.e. Ports, Hickmans, PICCs) handling and administration of antibiotics, IVIG, iron infusions, blood transfusions and phlebotomies. Assisting the physician with various procedures, e.g. thoracentesis and paracentesis. Acting as a resource and role model, including mentoring/coaching staff, promoting and supporting a positive working relationship, effective team building and functioning with all staff and identifying and problem solving potential risk issues.

Requirements

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses
  • Current BCLS certification Minimum of 2 years of recent full-time experience working on an outpatient medical ambulatory setting.
  • Experience in administration of IVIG/iron infusions and first dose antibiotics.
  • Certification RNAO membership is preferred Excellent physical assessment and patient education skills
  • Proficient computer skills Demonstrated commitment to a patient/family centred care environment
  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
  • Well developed organization, communication, interpersonal and teaching skills
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, continuing education and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
