The Role:

This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis. Occasional travel will be minimal.

Reporting to Coach Canada's Regional Vice-President, this role will lead all aspects of maintenance operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and company policies while maximizing fleet efficiency and safety. You will be responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing maintenance strategies as it relates to the procurement, servicing, maintenance, and repair of the Coach Canada Fleet.

In this role, you will uphold current maintenance best practices, while developing and implementing innovative strategies. You will lead by example, direct personnel, allocate resources, and provide regular communications to meet Coach Canada's vehicle needs and assure smooth and efficient operations.

This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and technical expertise to drive continuous improvement in maintenance practices and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and influence a team of maintenance managers, supervisors, and technicians across multiple locations, providing guidance, coaching, and support to achieve maintenance objectives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability within the maintenance department, promoting adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Assure vehicle-related functions and activities comply with established laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate subordinate work assignments and review work to assure accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements, and procedures.
  • Develop and manage maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.
  • Assist in preparing the annual preliminary budget for vehicle maintenance, repair, operation, servicing, and procurement functions; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on maintenance performance, challenges, and initiatives.
  • Direct off-site maintenance, repair, and recovery functions for roadside vehicle services.
  • Review the work of mechanics and other maintenance personnel to assure compliance with established standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Participate in related negotiation and quotation activities; oversee the selling or disposal of used vehicles.
  • Confer with other divisions concerning vehicle needs and issues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers under approved vendors list.
  • Develop and support processes to improve occupational health, safety, and efficiencies for Maintenance Department personnel.
  • Ensure that sufficient materials, special tools, and equipment are calibrated and have been made available to accomplish the required maintenance of the Company's fleet.
  • Responsible for the interviewing, hiring, ongoing performance review, and accountability of Maintenance Department personnel. This may require coaching, counselling and discipline when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a maintenance management position, preference will be given to candidates who have experience in a senior management role.
  • Proven ability to organize, direct, and oversee maintenance department operations.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to establish and maintain priorities and timelines.
  • Proven sound judgement and decision-making skills to be able to effectively monitor, evaluate and determine priority of vehicle maintenance, servicing, and repair projects.
  • Experience in personnel management, performance evaluation and disciplinary actions.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting a safety culture and encouraging hazard reporting.
  • Effective delegation skills for managing various maintenance divisional activities.
  • Valid license and appropriate training in fleet maintenance.
  • Commitment to occupational health, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in vendor management, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills for fostering team cohesion and liaising with regulatory authorities.
