Job Description
Regional Director of Marketing & Communications
As the Regional Director of Marketing & Communications, you will proudly represent Canada’s Pacific Northwest (PNW) Region, consisting of five exceptionally unique world-class city hotels; Fairmont Empress, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Fairmont Pacific Rim, Fairmont Vancouver Airport and Fairmont Waterfront.
You will report to the Director of Sales and Marketing with a dotted line to the Regional Director of Sales & Marketing, leading Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s Marketing and PR, and oversight of PR and communications for the Pacific Northwest region. You will also work closely with Fairmont’s Corporate Office on brand PR initiatives. You will collaborate with the PNW Region’s Directors of Sales & Marketing and PR & Marketing Managers to oversee the implementation of annual marketing and PR plans.
Your Key Relationships include
: Directors of Sales & Marketing, Directors of Food & Beverage, General Managers, Directors of Operations, Catering & Special Events, Sales Managers, the Regional Director of Sales & Marketing, and the Regional Director of Digital Marketing.
Your team and working environment:
As Regional Director of Marketing and Communications, you will lead the marketing and communications team at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. You will be based at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver with support from both roles, as well as support from Fairmont corporate office.
Your Business Goals will be:
Create strategies to maximize profitability of Hotel Vancouver through marketing and public relations tactics that build revenues, improve luxury positioning and maximize profits
Development and management of Marketing / Communication strategies for the hotel
Strategic oversight of PNW regional communications and PR initiatives, including crisis communications.
Ensures corporate brand initiatives are implemented within the region
Contribute to hotel(s) revenue targets, customer satisfaction and efficiency goals
Promote environmental and social initiatives within the community, while raising the profile of both the hotels, region and the brand
What you will be doing:
Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Marketing and Communications:
Development and management of Marketing / Communication strategies, events & activations for the hotel
Contribute to hotel revenue targets, customer satisfaction and efficiency goals
Create strategies to maximize profitability of property through PR & Marketing tactics that build revenue, improve luxury positioning or maximize profits
Develop communication strategies and execute public relations programs within the hotel and local/regional/national/international markets to extend the brand and support hotel’s revenue generation goals
Develop and maintain a local crisis communication program
Serve as a key contact in the hotel for the media, industry partners and the community
Champion partnerships and promote environmental and social initiatives within the community, while raising the profile of both the hotel and the brand.
Regional PR:
Act as the region’s liaison with Fairmont Corporate office to ensure the PNW Region is up to date with all corporate initiatives; advise corporate on regional and property level programs.
Develop and oversee annual PR and communications plans for region and local hotel level.
Oversee and assist with execution of all corporate and brand PR strategies and initiatives
Assist in the development and management of the annual local hotel and regional PR budgets.
Contribute to hotel revenue targets for hotels in the Pacific Northwest region.
Create strategies to maximize profitability of each property through PR strategies that build revenue or reduce costs through effective management and planning
Liaise with tourism partners to maximize awareness of the hotels through the regional visiting media program.
Develop partnerships on a regional and local hotel level to drive brand awareness and advocacy.
Oversee the region’s visiting media program, developing unique story ideas and programs that drive press placements in top tier publications.
Media Relations & Marketing Communications:
Act as a spokesperson for the hotel and as a member of the crisis managementteam
Generate new and traditional media initiatives
Work with corporate PR to develop and execute brand initiatives
Write and disseminate press kits, releases, editors’ advisories, calendar listings.
Advise on marketing and advertising copy and provide editing for brand consistency
Update press rooms and keep corporate PR and agencies informed of all news
Develop and build positive relationships with local media and industry partners in key markets.
Develop joint, regional and national promotional opportunities with other Accor properties
Develop and maintain all media lists and contact information
Consult and manage PR agencies, where applicable.
Maintain an up-to-date photo and video library, including a photographic record of all media and special events
Conduct individual and media familiarization trips and regional media outreach/hosting as needed
Work with tourism and airline partners where appropriate.
Seek product placement/broadcast/film opportunities to leverage new and existing brand partnership opportunities
Extend brand reach with non-traditional marketing and media partnerships.
Work with DOSM to leverage advertising and marketing programs
Submit monthly media measurements reports to Corporate PR, DOSM and General Manager (and regional key stakeholders DOSM, GM)
Employee Communications and Talent & Culture Support:
Provide crisis communications training and media training to hotel colleagues as needed
Advise on messaging and content for hotel internal communication vehicles
Provide writing and editing support to executive and Talent & Culture teams
Develop PR strategies that align with employee engagement and community relations activities
Additional regional responsibilities:
Support regional initiatives
Provide strategic direction to regional PR and align corporate and regional objectives
Support and align PR plans with regional hotels on property PR Managers/Directors
Provide crisis communication leadership for the region to include: manage crisis situations;training and media training for hotel executive teams as needed
Assist with creation and administration of branded programs (provide feasibility and operational perspective)
PR leadership role within the region, act as PR council to hotels in region.
Pitch innovative and creative regional stories to garner media
Pro-actively organize media visits and familiarization trips to targeted media.
Cross promote/publicize local and regional stories
Leverage media contacts for hotel and regional PR programs.
Develop new partnerships and work as regional contact for Corporate PR, Corporate Director Business Development and marketing partnerships and Regional DOSM
Champion Corporate PR activities within the region and spearhead regional brand launches (with support of corporate PR)
Update Regional Vice President and Corporate PR regarding PR issues in the Region
Provide PR transition support to new Hotels within the Region (i.e.: planning, due diligence, transition budgets and resource allocation – with assistance from corporate PR)
Assist with orientation and training of new Public Relations Directors within the region
Set strategy for region as it relates to liaising with PR agencies and new media market development
Qualifications
Your skills and qualifications include:
Bachelors’ degree and/or Diploma/Degree in PR and/or journalism degree with at least 8 years’ senior level PR experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must
Flexible, results-oriented, decision-maker, positive, ability to handle multiple tasks, self-motivated, strong initiative
Ability to travel and work flexible hours and days
Ability to understand and interpret financial data
Strong computer literacy
Proven ability to create partnerships within industry and community
