We are experiencing significant international growth. Therefore, our refrigeration engineering team is looking for a junior or intermediate refrigeration engineer to support the expansion of our projects in Quebec.

Refrigeration Engineer – Montreal

As part of an integrated project team, this Refrigeration Engineer will support refrigeration systems and projects for the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Additionally, this engineer will support process safety programs and initiatives for refrigeration systems and refrigerated facilities.

Based in Montreal, this person will report to the Senior Refrigeration Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the analysis of customer needs and the definition of projects;
  • Participate in all phases of the project and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, the defined scope, timelines and budget;
  • Design industrial refrigeration and heat transfer fluid systems;
  • Participate in the development of refrigeration SOPs (standard operating procedures), HAZOPS studies and other safety analyses;
  • Prepare engineering drawings and specifications;
  • Carry out CAD and draft refrigeration diagrams and plans in AutoCAD;
  • Obtain proposals and follow up with suppliers and contractors;
  • Evaluate and select technologies and equipment suppliers;
  • Supervise the installation, commissioning and qualification of equipment;
  • Conduct code compliance and safety audits;
  • Perform on-site inspections of refrigeration systems;
  • Write, format and proofread specifications, reports, models and other documents;
  • Understanding of the HAZOP methodology;
  • Understanding of methodology and ability to perform indoor/outdoor hazard dispersion analyses, development of standard operating procedures, fault tree analysis, and other hazard identification and mitigation techniques/processes associated risks;
  • Organize and update project files;
  • Provide support and build relationships with new and existing customers;
  • Collaborate with internal and external team members;

Key requirements:

  • Sc. in engineering (chemical or mechanical)
  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (OIQ) or CPI;
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in process safety in the chemical or industrial refrigeration industry
  • New graduates with engineering internship experience are welcome to apply
  • Bilingual (French/English)
  • Solid knowledge of refrigeration and mechanical codes and standards, including ASME, CSA, ASHRAE and IIAR;
  • Understanding of ammonia safety requirements, including PSM and RMP.
  • Understanding of pipe bending stresses and piping codes and standards.
  • Excellent technical support and troubleshooting skills;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD software, including Plant 3D and P&ID is considered an asset
