We are currently looking for a Recycling Manager based out of St. Thomas, ON Our mission has started. Volkswagen Group’s largest cell factory in St. Thomas will carry out all battery activities – from processing raw materials to developing a unified Volkswagen battery to managing the European and North American gigafactories. To reach these goals we need your POWER! As the Recycling Manager, you will be responsible adapt and implement the vertical integration strategy of PowerCo for its North American Gigafactories. You will lead different business development activities (Make or Buy Decisions, Partnerships, Technology, Benchmarking) in the field of Recycling for PowerCo SE’s North American Gigafactory, considering overarching company goals. Reporting temporarily to the Sr. Finance Director & Head of PMO Company Ramp-Up, you will support and contribute to the Recycling Team. Primary Responsibilities : Proactively propose, develop, present and coordinate planning concepts in the field of battery recycling for PowerCo SE’s North American Gigafactory and ensure and steer their implementation until handover to operators ensuring compliance with Canadian environmental regulations and industry standards. Lead Business Development activities (Make or Buy Decisions, Partnerships, Technology, Benchmarking) in the field of Recycling for the St. Thomas Gigafactory, considering overarching company goals. With respect to recycling, develop, adapt, and implement the vertical integration strategy of PowerCo SE in North America in alignment with PowerCo SE’s HQ Lead international and cross-functional project teams to develop, evaluate, plan and roll-out new recycling processes and technologies. Coordinate the planning, designing and optimization of recycling facilities, leveraging deep commercial and technical expertise to enhance efficiency and maximize recovery of valuable materials. Establish and nurture local partnerships with recycling entities, involving activities such as scouting potential partners, conducting comprehensive technical and commercial evaluations, negotiating agreements, and managing supplier. Development and implementation of processes, standards, and knowledge exchange for recycling in Company and worldwide Assess, interpret, and ensure the application of new technologies, external and internal regulations, and standards within the recycling space. Actively engage in industry forums and conferences, representing the organization as a thought leader in sustainable battery technologies and circular economy initiatives Develop and deliver training programs for staff, sharing knowledge and best practices in lithium-ion battery recycling. Qualifications Qualifications:  Graduate Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related field or an MBA combined with a technical or scientific undergraduate degree. 7+ years of relevant experience leading and managing recycling projects, overseeing teams, and ensuring timely and cost-effective execution of recycling initiatives within the lithium-ion industry. Profound knowledge of Lithium-Ion battery recycling market trends, players, processes, technologies Proven track-record in business development with activities such as preparing Make or Buy Decisions, evaluation and developing Partnerships, Technology scouting and evaluation and market benchmarking. Effective communication skills to liaise with management, cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies, fostering collaboration and maintaining transparency in all aspects of battery recycling operations. Ability to manage complex international projects and working under time pressure will be required. Proficiency in MS Office application Ability to travel nationally and internally up to 30% (e.g., to Europe and Asia). Demonstrated proficiency in business English, additional language skills in German and Mandarin are advantageous.
