The Big Picture

Our team is rapidly growing, and we are currently seeking a Team Leader for R&D Engineering to assist with developing and sustaining Baylis Med Tech’s portfolio of exciting and innovative products. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a team of engineers working on design activities from conceptualization to commercialization and to work collaboratively with other cross-functional leaders.

The Team Leader is the first level of sustained and direct supervision of other engineers. In addition to applying mature engineering knowledge and coordination of difficult tasks and assignments, the Team Leader provides technical review of work for junior staff and has administrative and supervisory responsibilities for the members of the team.

Impact Through Innovation

  • Lead a team of engineers in spearheading Research and Development initiatives, overseeing projects from conceptualization to full commercialization.
  • Conduct planning for broad, technical projects by applying mature engineering knowledge and soliciting input from other stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Implement cutting-edge technologies to provide the optimum design solution for products.
  • Lead the design of concepts and prototypes in advance of selecting the most promising solution to take into Design Freeze.
  • Lead and train engineers on the development of plans and testing for design verification and validation.
  • Drive the development of intellectual property within the company.
  • Provide technical, project-level leadership to junior engineering staff.
  • Lead DFM ( Design for manufacturing) activities. 
  • Support and lead Research and Development sustaining projects as they arise on commercial production lines.
  • Track deliverables from internal and external teams against product design change requirements.
  • Adhere to all requirements of the Quality Management System.

Your Unique Expertise

Required skills:
  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s Engineering degree.
  • 7+ years of experience working in an engineering role.
  • 5 years of experience working in a medical device company.
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in people management, including supervising direct reports or leading technical experts, with a proven ability to foster team growth.
  • Knowledge of design requirements as per 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485.
  • Knowledge of risk management as per ISO 14971.
  • Experience with drafting and reviewing DHF and DMR documentation. 
  • Experience leading a team of engineers doing rapid design iteration and making design recommendations.
  • Ability to independently develop and adapt work plans based on vague or changing project goals and ensure teams are aligned.
  • Strong hypothesis-driven experimental design and statistical analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in creative engineering design.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a diverse team of engineers, professional staff, and production staff.
  • Superior communication skills (verbal/written) and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong interest in biomedical technology.
  • Dynamic, flexible approach to work with a results-oriented attitude.
  • Candidates must possess previous experience with the development of medical devices (catheters, sheaths, guidewires, dilators, balloon catheters).
  • Genuine enthusiasm for nurturing and guiding engineers through development and training.

  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing direct reports.
