Job Description

The Research and Development Lab Technician plays an integral part of the research and development team by supporting research scientists with the preparation, completion, and analysis of scientific experiments. This individual will also be vital to the day-to-day operation of the laboratory by ensuring that equipment is calibrated and maintained while coordinating purchasing and inventory of consumables.RESPONSIBILITIESSupports R&D scientists by assisting with experiments/tests/validations as required.Manages the calibration of laboratory equipment and maintains associated records.Manages chemical inventory and waste management.Ensures the overall maintenance/cleanliness of the R&D laboratory.Assists in ensuring compliance with relevant GMP/GLP guidelines.Assists in ensuring that the appropriate standards of performance are maintained with regards to Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance.Manages/monitors maintenance and usage of lab equipment, report any deficiencies to their immediate manager or designate.Participates in the development and updating of any R&D related quality system processes and/or documentation.Work to achieve assigned tasks within the standards required (quality, quantity, time and resources).Comply with all legal requirements, all corporate policies and procedures, and with generally accepted business and ethical practices.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:B.Sc. degree or equivalent education in biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, biomaterials or related scientific field.Knowledge/Experience:Strong understanding of general experimental methodologies, data analysis and the presentation of scientific results.1-2 years of industry experience working in a lab environment.Experience using a wide variety of laboratory equipment.Computer literacy - experience using commonly used laboratory software in a Microsoft Office environment.Experience in a medical device area an asset.
