We are currently looking for a Quality Laboratory & Monitoring Engineer based out of St. Thomas, ON

Volkswagen Group’s largest cell factory in St. Thomas will carry out all battery activities – from processing raw materials to developing a unified Volkswagen battery to managing the European and North American gigafactories. We are looking for a Quality Laboratory & Monitoring Engineer to plan activities in the field of quality assurance for the laboratories and at-line (shopfloor) measuring stations and measurement technology. Temporarily reporting to our Senior Finance Director & Head of PMO Company Ramp up, this role is responsible for planning of all measurements within the measurement laboratory, planning and executing internal verification and external calibration activities, developing measurement systems, and preparing investment plans in this direction.

This is a temporary flex hybrid model requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas office, subject to change based on the needs of the project, will eventually transition to fully onsite

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Development, elaboration and revision as well as presentation of planning concepts in the definition of the laboratory and at-line layout and the technical specifications for the devices and measuring equipment.
  • Implementation of concepts and implementation of defined measures
  • Further development of techniques and procedures, including analysis and evaluation of alternative solutions using economic standards
  • Ensures the verification/calibration of inspection and measurement equipment with a system with national/international traceability and certification.
  • Prepares measurement device usage and verification instructions.
  • Fulfills and documents the requirements of the Quality Management System (Laboratory) within its own field of work.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree with a focus on Chemical Engineering (preferred), or Electrical, Mechanical, lndustrial Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally within the automotive, battery (preferred), chemical or pharmaceutical industries
  • Proficiency with measurement equipment (CT scan, CMM, SEM, FTIR, Digital Microscopes), verification/calibration methods, MSA applications.
  • Basic level knowledge in automotive quality management system IATF 16949, FMEA and SPC
  • Ability to travel up to 50% requirement for domestic and international travel (Spain, Germany, China)
