Job Description for Purchasing Manager Company Overview: Del Metals, a leading mid-sized steel service center, distributes a wide range of carbon, stainless, and aluminum products. Reporting to the Vice-President of Sales, we are seeking a Purchasing Manager to streamline our procurement processes and maintain operational efficiency and effectiveness. Job Responsibilities: Develop and execute a purchasing strategy that ensures timely procurement and optimal inventory levels and provides months on hand analysis for all product lines. Manage the purchasing process from drafting, reviewing, and approving purchase orders to confirming receipt of goods. Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective purchasing decisions. Build and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while scouting for and onboarding new ones. Coordinate with warehouse and sales departments to manage inventory levels and meet company requirements. Oversee the receipt of purchased products and ensure compliance with all received specifications. Handle discrepancies and quality issues with suppliers. Stay updated on market trends to harness efficiency and cost savings. Implement and manage purchasing systems and software to streamline operations. Qualifications: Skills & Abilities: Strong organizational and negotiation skills. Proficiency in using procurement software and databases and other computer technology. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Experience: Education & Experience: Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business Administration or related field 2-5 years relevant experience Professional Designation or Certification in Supply Chain Management as an asset At least 2-3 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in the steel industry or related fields. Extensive experience in writing and managing purchase orders. Strong track record in vendor management and contract negotiation. Desired skills and or experience: experience preferred. in the steel distribution business, or metal manufacturing industries or related fields. Compensation & Benefits: The salary for this position ranges from $80,000 to $120,000. Comprehensive benefits package.
