We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Water/Wastewater Linear Infrastructure team at R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside). The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of related experience. We are open to hearing from qualified candidates who are interested in our office locations in: Hamilton Guelph Pickering The primary focus of this position will be completing design, securing approvals and supporting construction administration of municipal linear infrastructure such as watermains, sanitary sewers and forcemains. This is a technical role for an individual who has ‘attention to detail’ and a knack for completing detailed designs, accompanying reports and tender packages. Our growing team has several ongoing and upcoming linear infrastructure projects involving not only local watermain and sewer replacements but also large-diameter and trenchless projects throughout Southern Ontario. The successful candidate will play a key role in continuing to build upon our team’s very strong positioning as a trusted ‘go-to’ engineering consultant in this space. Role Specifics The position will involves a focus on the following tasks: Completing the planning, study, design, approval and construction administration of linear infrastructure projects for local servicing, transmission, collection and/or conveyance infrastructure utilizing a variety of construction methods (i.e. open-cut, trenchless); Working closely with design teams and being responsible for the production of preliminary and detailed design drawings and preparation of related reports, coordination of approvals, development of construction cost estimates, and liaising with clients, sub-consultants and contractors; Supporting construction inspectors in the field and contract administrators in the office to become familiar with construction techniques and adapt to unexpected challenges encountered during construction; Working under the guidance of senior project managers and senior engineers across the company to further develop technical skills; Collaborating with and contributing to project teams (sometimes across other offices) to ensure successful project delivery meeting the client’s needs; Involved with the preparation of proposals, project reports, design documents, and permit applications; Mentoring and assisting in the development of engineering students, engineers-in-training and junior project engineers/technologists; and Other duties as assigned. Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications The following qualifications, experience and skills are required: An engineering degree in a related discipline; Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario; A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience with municipal linear infrastructure design, contract administration and client relationships; Knowledge of municipal and provincial approval processes and relevant agency and industry standards, guidelines and best practices; Strong communication, written and analytical skills; and Excellent organization with the ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently. The following experience and skills are considered assets: Understanding of and/or experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroStation; MS Office and MS Project. Experience with trenchless construction (e.g., horizontal auger boring, horizontal directional drilling, microtunneling, etc.) Why Choose Burnside?
