The City of Mississauga is advancing on its strategic goal of becoming a transit-oriented City. With approved capital funding, the Transportation and Works Department is looking for one (1) Project Engineer for our Rapid Transit Program Office. Your role will be to work alongside project managers on various Bus Rapid Transit projects including but not limited to Dundas and Lakeshore corridors and Downtown Mobility Hub and Transitway Connection spanning from Environmental Assessment through Procurement, Early Works, Design, Construction, and Commissioning. The qualities that you bring to the position are strong project management, vendor management, communication, and contract administration skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Rapid Transit (BRT), the role is accountable for:

  • Working with and/or supporting project managers on various project activities throughout full lifecycle engineering
  • Managing project consultants, contractors, vendors, project teams, related meetings and project budgets
  • Coordinating inputs and feedbacks from various internal/external subject matter experts and stakeholders
  • Insuring coordinated and consistent reporting of issues and communications at all levels and with large and complex sets of stakeholders and constituencies, including government-related agencies, City departments and external consultants
  • Coordinating and supervising of all stages of work to ensure contract documents are compiled accurately through sound instruction and direction to staff
  • Administering construction contracts to ensure terms are fulfilled
  • Assisting in project control activities such as risk, cost, schedule and document management
  • Preparing technical and corporate reports to Council and working with communication team in responding to various request for information from citizens, staff and members of Council
  • Providing document management support for the team
  • Performing any other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Registered Professional Engineer with PEO or equivalent.
  • PMP designation an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the environmental assessment, design and construction of municipal works and contract administration
  • Experience with BRT and/or LRT preferred
  • Experience with various delivery model, including Design-Bid-Build, Design Build and Transit Oriented Development preferred
  • Experience with project control function preferred
  • Strong project management and contract administration skills as demonstrated through experience working successfully with contractors and consultants
  • Experience with direct supervision of staff assigned on a project basis
  • Strong team player with an understanding of new construction techniques and developing industry trends
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills with the ability to find collaborative solutions
  • Demonstrated judgement and decision making skills with the ability to determine an effective course of action that drives progression
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills balanced with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to change
  • Exceptional written, verbal and team communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and execute projects utilizing sound project management principles, practices and theories
  • Tact and diplomacy to deal with internal and external stakeholders including members of Council, the public and community groups
  • Leadership competencies include strategic agility, business acumen, communication and relationship building, developing culture and people and driving change
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.


Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 93,120.00 - $ 124,160.00
