Job Description

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is in search of a Project Engineer to become a valuable member of our Drainage Group based at our Wingham Office. We are particularly interested in candidates with an agricultural background and a strong enthusiasm for advancing their career within the drainage market sector. Drainage engineering work is undertaken in our Stratford, Wingham, Collingwood and Orangeville offices. At present, our Orangeville and Collingwood offices provide drainage engineering and Drainage Superintendent services to 22 municipalities. Burnside has been actively involved in drainage projects since its inception in 1970. The majority of the drainage projects completed are under Section 4 (Petition for new Municipal Drains) and Section 78 (Repair and Improvement of Existing Municipal Drains) of the Drainage Act. Burnside is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for its depth of qualified personnel actively involved in the drainage industry. The Role This position will involve, but is not limited to carrying out the following tasks, and includes: Preparing and submitting Engineer Reports under the Drainage Act; Coordinate and lead design drawings and survey data collection with staff; As projects arise provide support with storm water management modelling and report writing, grading and drainage plans, site developments; Conducting Field Surveys; Assisting in discussions with affected property owners; Performing calculation of allowances and assessments; Preparing tender and contract documents; Performing review of construction and attendance at Council meetings; and Attend and lead meetings, deliver reports and coordinate with support staff; and Assist staff with data collection as required. Professional Knowledge & Qualifications The following qualifications, experience and skills are required: Registered Professional Engineer (Ontario / PEO), ideally with 10 years minimum of licensure, in good standing with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources or Environmental Engineering from an accredited university. Experience with overseeing and coordinating sub-consultants, procurement, design, construction and commissioning. Computer design skills in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently, mentoring junior staff A valid Ontario driver’s license and vehicle. The following soft skills are required: Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and facilitation skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
