Job Description
Reporting to the General Manager, the Project Coordinator will provide overall support for construction projects with the City of Calgary and surrounding area to ensure Volker Stevin Contracting has aligned expertise necessary to deliver on business development opportunities.
General Responsibilities:
- Deliver estimates that are timely, accurate, and well thought out, to ensure success in the bidding and awarding of projects.
- Supervise underground construction projects to ensure they follow planned estimates.
- Support field crews to ensure projects are delivered in a safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner.
- Identify any major discrepancies in project costs and construction standards and report them to the underground project team immediately.
- Work side by side with an underground field team to execute the project for client delivery.
- Provide ongoing communication with internal team, direct supervisor, field crews and clients on all phases of project construction.
- Keep an accurate record of all information required to deliver on the project efficiently, produce necessary reconciled billings up to final product delivery and final invoicing.
- Review the tender specifications and drawings.
- Prepare and carry out estimating takeoffs, bid estimates, and on-site inspections.
- Attend pre-tender meetings.
Leadership:
- Ensure all contact with the client is handled in a constructive, productive, “can-do” problem solving approach, contributing to overall customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate, coordinate, guide and support the field team to ensure crews are working safely and the project is progressing accordingly, so overall service delivery levels are optimized.
- Partner with the supervisor on aligning skills development with present and future position requirements.
- Take the initiative to learn and develop own skills to optimize the delivery of accurate and timely project estimation activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 2 to 6 years of estimating experience or a combination of field and estimating is preferred.
- CET or P.Eng. is preferred; however, a combination of relevant education and heavy construction experience will be considered.
- Competency to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with construction estimation software, InEight, is preferred.
- Experience with Viewpoint ERP is an asset.
- Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean Driver’s Abstract (as per Company Policy)
- Shallow utility experience is an asset.
