Job Description

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:1. Initiate, direct and conduct archaeological research and resource management projects within the Stó:lō Traditional Territory2. Assist with administration of the Stó:lō heritage Policy, involvement in cross-cultural awareness initiatives, research and writing proposals3. Co-ordinate with archaeological and GIS staff to maintain databases and other information sets used in resource management and land use planning.The Project Archaeologist will report to the Manger / Senior Archaeologist within the Stó:lô Research & Resource Management Centre. Work location will be based out of Chilliwack however some travel may be required.QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:• Must have a minimum Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology (with a focus in Archaeology) with minimum (3) years experience• Must have strong organizational skills and a team player with a strong background and demonstrated skills in communications• Must have knowledge and experience of federal, provincial and local governance policies/legislation related to heritage and First Nations• Must have knowledge of the Stó:lō Heritage Policy• Demonstrated ability to hold a Provincial Heritage Investigation/Inspection Permit• Have proven ability to work on a variety of Windows computer programs including MS Word, Excel and Access. A familiarity with GIS is an asset• Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage in field and office settings• Familiarity and understanding of Stó:lō and/or other First Nations’ culture, traditions and history.
