Our services include emergency food and clothing; daily hot meals; emergency shelters for men, youth, families, women and children; transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. Good Shepherd is seeking to fill a management position for our growing needs as we are expanding our supportive housing program into the Niagara Region. Good Shepherd will begin operation of a 24-hour supportive housing program in Niagara Falls, ON.


How You Will Make an Impact

The successful candidate will extend our mission to on-site HOMES tenants through the provision of mentoring, leadership, supervision and risk-management that is respectful and appropriate to trauma-informed & recovery best practices in a housing first / supportive housing setting. This may include team-building, recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management and community collaboration. The incumbent must be able to work provide leadership in a multi-disciplinary team within a challenging and rewarding values-based environment.

You will manage staff, recruit and address performance related issues and use all available resources to provide the best service possible, utilizing a commitment to continuous quality improvement while supporting a committed team of professionals to assist tenants in maintaining housing and thriving in their own recovery.

You will be responsible for the provision of program operations that support tenants whom have experience homelessness, trauma, substance use, mental health, oppression and poverty.

You are responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd.


What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • This position requires a post-secondary education in social or health sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years' progressive experience in mental health, supportive housing, extensive knowledge of the mental health and addictions system in the Niagara Region. A proven history of community collaboration
  • Management/supervisory experience and demonstrated skills in developing, mentoring an dealing with performance related issues.
  • The ability to provide on-going support and risk management to the 24-hour staffed supportive housing program
  • Provide hospitality in dealings with clients, public, volunteers and partnering agencies
  • Responsibility in supervising staff in the collection of clinical information and on-going record-keeping as required by Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes, funding agencies and applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the culture, values and best practices of the program and Good Shepherd
  • The flexibility to provide on-call responsibilities and rotate on-call to the HOMES program as needed in collaboration with the Director and other HOMES managers.
  • An understanding of the importance of healthy diverse communities and community development approaches
  • Proficient computer skills in various software platforms is an asset
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • Valid Driver's license is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
