Job Description

Duties:

Reporting to the Campus Administrator and Program Coordinator for Professional Development and Training (PD&T), this position coordinates all aspects of The Workplace Essentials Skills Training (WEST) program and supports other programming in PD&T. PD&T is the home for Continuing Education at Vancouver Island University, providing learning opportunities to students, professionals, and community members pursuing educational and professional goals.
Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and managing the delivery of the WEST program at the tiwšɛmawtxwCampus
  • Liaising with and supporting program instructors, trainers, and contractors
  • Monitoring and adhering to the program budget
  • Completing all program reporting as required by the funding body and VIU
  • Collaborating with other VIU departments, funding agencies, and local partners as necessary
  • Assisting with other PD&T programs as required
  • Attending staff meetings and other meetings

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant subject area, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution, and a minimum of three years recent and related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate:

  • Effective communication, verbally and in writing
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Creativity and flexibility in problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license (and a confirmed satisfactory driving record)
  • Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills

The successful applicant must be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate initiative and self-motivation. They will be proficient in report writing and information management, budgeting, contract implementation, and project management. The successful applicant will demonstrate their ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple timelines and priorities, and adhere to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in post-secondary course planning/curriculum development
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in a positive and safe manner
  • Familiarity with VIU's systems, policies and procedures
  • Training in trauma-informed practice
