Description:The Production Manager, Second Shift is responsible for ensuring that the production schedule is met through the effective direction and management of labour, materials, as well as safety, production and scheduling of subcontractors and other service providers.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria, BC.What you'll doProvides direction to a diverse, complex, and technical workforce in a union environmentEffectively and efficiently implements the production schedule on ship repair, maintenance and upgrade workEnsures that the required safety and environmental policies and procedures are followedMonitors the specified staffing levels during the project and recommend adjustments as neededReviews project data and takes essential actions to ensure alignment to scheduleIdentifies and resolves production issues throughout the life of the projectEnsures that customer specifications, drawings, diagrams and other technical information are communicated to and understood by the workforceManages and directs subcontracted workMaintains control over production costsEnsures completion of additional workFollows shipyard policies, procedures, and systemsEnsures initiatives for continuous improvements per assigned lessons learned actions are followedAssists the Project Manager in the control and update of production schedulesWhat you'll bringA degree or trade certificate in a technical skill associated with ship repairA minimum of 10 years of progressively more complex work experience in large ship repair or shipbuilding projectsA minimum of 3 years’ experience as a charge hand, supervisor, or department manager in a union environment, preferably ship relatedExperience with large government contracts preferredGood verbal and written communication skillsGood understanding of production costsFamiliarity with standard computer applicationsExcellent problem solving and issue management abilitiesStrong technical knowledge and ability to understand and interpret complex specifications, drawings, and dataStrong structural backgroundGood planning and scheduling abilitiesAbility to think and act clearly under pressureGood time managementWhy you'll love working hereThis role provides you a very competitive salary in line with the successful candidate’s experienceWe also provide a best-in-class health and wellness benefits package for this position that includes such things as full health care (including unlimited physiotherapy), dental, vision, medical leave coverage, wellness/fitness reimbursement for memberships or registration fees, and an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP) through Homewood HealthThe estimated salary for this position is $117,000-$143,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
