Job Summary:

The Lead Hand is responsible for ensuring the production plan outlined by the Supervisor is followed, and to lead the efficient operation of production activities in a safe and timely manner

Job Duties:

Production/Planning Responsibilities

  • Communicate with drivers, line operators and other staff what product and equipment will be run as outlined in the production plan.
  • Ensure production plan outlined by supervisor is followed by all production staff.
  • Ensure all rooms, labelers and tubers are properly set up and ready for production.
  • Walk through the production line regularly to ensure all areas are running in the most effective, efficient and safe manner.
  • Conduct ongoing inspection of every bag/tub to ensure proper case codes and quality of product are being maintained and advise supervisor of any concerns.
  • Complete second verification sheet to ensure that product codes and dates are correct.
  • Checking the physical and visual quality of product and report any concerns to Bosch operator as well as supervisor.
  • Fill in for key food safety personnel as required (production/shift supervisors).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assign staff to work location and create rotation schedule.
  • Direct staff to dispose of any garbage on a regular basis throughout the shift (3 times per shift).
  • Advise staff to sweep floors, remove labels and to make sure overall area is kept in a neat, clean and orderly fashion.
  • Manage and lead staff, advising them of duties to be completed, and overseeing task completion.
  • Ensure startup and shutdown list is completed each shift.

Food Safety and OHS Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all man doors are closed, and that all rollup doors are operating.
  • Follow all applicable health & safety and food regulations and procedures, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment, such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, Teflon gloves etc.
  • Ensure each worker follows all applicable health and safety and food safety regulations.
  • Shows interest in Ippolito Fruit and Produce Ltd H & S performance.
  • Upholds safety rules, and supports safety enforcement.
  • Corrects substandard or unsafe acts or conditions
  • Reports, investigates, and documents all injuries and incidents.
  • Report all workplace accidents or health and safety concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Attend training sessions as required, and ensure employees are up to date on required training.
