Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all. We are seeking a dynamic Product Owner with a proven track record in product design, including the ability to create detailed wireframes, develop user-centric designs, and oversee the product development lifecycle from concept to launch. The ideal candidate will bring innovative ideas to life, leveraging their expertise in design thinking and user experience to build products that meet and exceed customer expectations What will I be doing?
  • Apply design thinking methodologies to enhance and expand our payment products transit portfolio, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to identify user needs and deliver solutions that improve and streamline the transit experience for our customers.
  • Provides input to the short executable plans derived from product roadmaps and oversees product development through execution of the business requirements.
  • Identifying issues between the product roadmap and delivery plans/associated constraints, in order to find long-term solutions and engages the required stakeholders to reconcile conflicting priorities.
  • Supports managing the relationship with vendors, which includes defining problem statements, reviewing vendor proposals to realize value for money and providing input to the Presto Management Vendor process for vendor performance reviews.
  • Works across the organization to build relationships with customers, product and vendor delivery teams and product operations to ensure product success.
  • Confirms product designs at key milestones, in collaboration with Product Delivery teams, to stay apprised of progress through development, resolve escalated problems, and address business expectations in the event of development issues.
  • Liaises with business stakeholders and clients to understand business priorities and business drivers in order to oversee the prioritization of a release that will meet the customer and client needs.
  • Develops, publishes and supports Business Cases through internal governance so as to achieve the business outcomes defined in the Product Roadmap.
  • Provides input and product recommendations to the PRESTO Procurement Program as required.
  • Plans and provides ongoing maintenance and management of their assigned Presto product portfolio.
  • Communicates regularly with the client and/or business to understand product vision, business needs and develop product roadmaps to ensure alignment of goals and plans; provides regular updates to stakeholders and provides opportunities for feedback on progress.
  • Fosters the advancement of Product Management capabilities as part of continuous improvement activities and maintaining Product Management practice in alignment with other Presto groups.
  • Keeps current and advises the Director of Payment Products regarding the direction of emerging tools and products that would improve the technology maturity of the organization.
What skills & qualifications do I need?
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Business, Information Technology, Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial) Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science or related discipline - or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated years of experience in developing and launching various features that tackle broad challenges, including crafting end-to-end user experiences across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated years of interaction design experience, with the ability to outline user-centric behaviors in product design, informed by an understanding of user needs. Proficiency with prototyping tools to demonstrate workflow and interaction concepts is essential. Portfolio that includes application design samples.
  • Commercial Acumen, Content Strategy Development, Decision Making, Product Development Methodology, Product Services, User Experience (UX) Design, User Experience (UX) Research, User Interface (UI) Design.
  • Demonstrated years’ experience in progressively advancing roles within IT or related function.
  • Demonstrated years’ of experience in the field of IT product management.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of Product Management to: create the product vision and maintain the product roadmap for one or more assigned product portfolios; build a product vision and own a detailed 12 – 18 month product roadmap to track and manage business outcomes; champion new products through the Product Lifecycle from vision to end of life.
  • Relationship management, partnership building, facilitation and persuasion skills and political acuity to: encourage collaboration and innovation with relevant stakeholders; act as an evangelist to get people behind the product vision; identify issues and engages the required stakeholders to reconcile conflicting priorities.
  • Budgeting skills and experience to develop and manage budgets within budgetary limitations.
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to brief/update senior management, prepare project/program related reports and materials, deliver presentations and provide subject matter expertise to consultants, staff, and decision-makers.
