Product Development Scientist, Soybean  

This opportunity collaborates in the execution of Precision Breeding strategy for product development and commercialize hybrids that supply the Seeds & Traits portfolios for specified pipelines in Breeding's Crop Science division.

  • Provides technical leadership and insight to prioritize, develop, implement and advance innovations into the pipeline and well as support market development for national and regional brands to support the seed & trait portfolios towards markets in Breeding regions (NA/LATAM/APAC/EMEA) and related global markets
  • Mentors peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise that support personal development as well as identification of key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and/or process improvements/priorities simultaneously

This is a permanent, home-based position requiring local travel within Ontario.

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and execute technical strategies required for soybean product development aligned with market needs to deliver genetic gain in the short- and long-term
  • Lead and influence multi-function teams within home region and across other world regions to support innovation projects for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving product performance through digital transformation and new technology development and deployment
  • Interact with partners internal and external to assure implementation of technical strategy for developing new commercial products Contribute to and influence strategic planning and problem solving at division and group levels
  • Demonstrate scientific and managerial influence to achieve team and organizational goals
  • Explore creative and novel programs to create new business opportunities
  • Support new product launches with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships around the world to support and enhance the global landscape of plant biology technologies
  • Effectively communicate Bayer Crop Science goals and objectives to all relevant stakeholders
  • Support the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture in the site

Who you are:

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master in Agricultural Science, Pathology, Genetics, Crop Science, or Product Management
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross functional teams without direct reporting relationships
  • Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities; facilitates solutions
  • Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously
  • Familiarity with and a demonstrated ability to perform data analysis with large datasets
  • Strong ability in building cross-functional partnerships and influence others to drive results and innovation focused in solving business problems
  • Customer-centricity, with proven record of identifying customer needs, prioritizing resources, and bring timely and sustainable solutions
  • Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD with 6 years relevant experience, MA/MS with 10 years relevant experience, BA/BS with 12 years relevant experience
  • Experience in analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, as well as coding experience in R, Python or similar software
  • Experience with automated phenotyping/remote sensing and the interpretation of imaging data
