This role leads their Team Members to offer exceptional customer service while adhering to all policies, procedures, food safety and food handling standards, and Health and Safety initiatives.Areas of responsibility include sales, gross margin and other expense control, department standards, ordering and inventory control, customer service, department production, and product presentation and merchandising.Ensure standards of the department’s presentation and operations are met, including cleanliness and sanitation, food safety and food handling standards, inventory control, rotation, ordering, and delivery of customer service.Responsible for the preparation, assembly, displaying and merchandising of produce-related inventories in the department.Maintain inventory controls, image, and fixed assets, and perform administrative responsibilities.Responsible for department equipment maintenance, and report when repairs are required.Provide leadership and direction in developing and achieving financial results and budget objectives in the areas of sales, margins, expenses, and inventory.Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, engagement and diversity & inclusion within the Produce Department.Lead Talent Development and Performance Management for the Produce department team. Guide direct reports to set challenging and realistic goals for themselves on an annual basis, aligning with the Performance Management process.Provide leadership and direction to employees in accordance with company policies, procedures, programs, merchandising standards, and overall expectations.Recruit, onboard, orientate, and train Team Members.Be a mentor and coach to team members and provide exemplary customer service to all our customers.Who you are:You have 3-5 years of related experience in a retail environment with 1 year of Supervisory or Leadership experience; preference will be given to those with Produce experience. You demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to work well within multi-generational teams. Applicants should be self-reliant, goal-oriented, and able to set and adjust priorities and schedules for themselves and their team.High School Diploma or equivalent; or an acceptable combination of education and experienceMust have the capability to operate the required equipment for the preparation, merchandising, and sale of Produce.You are physically able to reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 25 pounds regularly, and lift up to 50 pounds on an intermittent basis.Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Outlook and Excel)Tech savvy with the ability to adapt to new technologyHigh level of integrity and work ethicAbility to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all timesAbility to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environmentAbility to effectively communicate both orally and in writingHigh flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environmentSound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skillsAction-oriented with a positive, energetic approachManagerial courage, evidenced by a strong ability to identify and address issues quickly and directly and provide specific and actionable feedback to othersAbility to stand for an extended period of time, while lifting, bending, and stocking products.Demonstrate the Co-op values of excellence, people, integrity and community in every aspect of their approach.Availability:Ability to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.Why it matters: Our team provides a range of products and services to support our member-owners.  Through the work that we do, we help build, fuel, feed and grow Western Canadian communities.The Team: You will provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the 13th Ave Produce Department that includes Produce Clerks and Floral Clerks.
