PRESIDENT – WEST COAST SENIORS HOUSING MANAGEMENT

About Us

West Coast Seniors Housing Management (WCSHM) has over 30 years of history in developing and

delivering senior housing in British Columbia and Alberta. Today, the company manages one of the

largest portfolios of senior facilities looking after the needs of over 4000 residents in 22 communities.

From Independent Living to Assisted Living and Residential Care, WCSHM offers a variety of housing options for seniors.

Currently, WCSHM is looking to hire a new President reporting directly to the Board of Directors, as part of its ongoing mandate to provide superb levels of care and management across its portfolio.

The President will develop sound operating strategies based on business objectives set in conjunction with the Board and ensure their effective execution. These include meeting financial objectives, establishing effective HR strategies which ensure the highest caliber of staff and morale, delivering exemplary resident care in line with appropriate regulations, overseeing and optimizing the asset management of the properties to enhance long-term value, and optimizing and implementing necessary frameworks to ensure that business initiatives are sustainable and which positively shape the future of the business.

In addition, the President will play a leading role in communicating and building positive business

relationships with WCSHM’s primary stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, various Health

Authorities and numerous Labor Unions.

Due to the nature of WCSHM’s business, the President will implement prudent and effective risk

management initiatives to ensure quality delivery of care while balancing the attainment of financial targets. In addition, the President will oversee the development of strong operational leaders including establishing appropriate succession strategies for key positions, and maintaining overall employee morale.

The ideal candidate brings strong executive leadership experience ideally in a health care setting

demonstrated over a number of years. This position demands a hands-on leader with a proactive,

determined, diplomatic, and motivating style together with a passion for delivering exemplary service. The ideal candidate will exemplify these characteristics together with a demonstrated ability to lead and hold a team accountable to ensure that service and business objectives are met.

About the Role

The President reports to the WCSHM board and is accountable for the organization's overall leadership and success. The President provides overall strategic and tactical leadership to ensure the achievement of the organization’s strategic objectives, working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership team and across the organization.

Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

  • Engage and mobilize the WCSHM team to achieve the purpose, goals, objective and key results
  • of the organization.
  • Be an engaged, collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships
  • that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
  • Model the values and leadership behaviours of WCSHM and inspire others to do the same.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight to the operations team, ensuring quality of care and
  • service and the long-term profitability of the business.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the health authorities, provincial
  • governments and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the ownership groups.
  • Coordinate work with Finance, IT, Procurement, the Energy Manager, Legal and Pacific Reach
  • Development.
  • Lead and manage Oxford Staffing Solutions.
  • Oversee RDO responsibilities for assigned communities.
  • Acting as an advisor to the Board on all aspects of WCSHM’s operations.
  • Representing WCSHM at industry events, as well as within industry organizations.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Board.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A post- secondary degree in business or in a similar relevant field; an MBA or equivalent is
  • preferred.
  • Five years plus relevant senior leadership experience, preferably in the industry.
  • Relationship building skills and political acumen.
  • Travel as required.

With the base compensation, this role also has an annual bonus and incentive plan, with potential equity participation.
