Position Summary

Based out of Halifax, NS at our Scotia Square location, the Power Engineer is responsible for providing day-to-day operations of steam and refrigeration units and preventative maintenance on all facility equipment. Additional duties of the Power Engineer include but are not limited to:

  • Plant maintenance and upkeep on rotating shifts.
  • Performs routine inspections and verifies correct operation of safety controls for systems.
  • Performs demand and preventative maintenance on boilers and other equipment/systems as needed.
  • Records and interprets readings of all plant equipment and various systems; maintains records.
  • Performs chemical tests on water systems for boilers and other equipment.
  • Scheduled maintenance on assigned equipment, tenant related HVAC calls
  • Operation of large central air conditioning units
  • Operating and understanding life safety systems plus a dedication to the safety and security of our customers, tenants and fellow employees.
  • Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Other special projects and tasks as assigned.

The profile we are looking for

  • Fourth-Class Power Engineering Certificate or Second-Class Refrigeration Certificate
  • Strong knowledge of power generation systems, including boilers, steam turbines, and related equipment
  • Proven time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all relevant regulations and procedures
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Clear criminal record check.
  • Ability to meet the following demands:
    • Lifting/lowering and carrying items up to 30 lbs
    • Pushing/pulling strength, occasionally requiring heavy force
    • Frequent walking up to 10km on a 12 hour night-shift
    • Occasional stair climbing
