Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the laboratory of Professor A. Claudio Cuello at McGill University’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics for collaborative studies on Alzheimers disease pathology and the search for novel therapeutic strategies.Early diagnosis and intervention to delay the onset of dementia are beneficial for patients and their caregivers and can result in substantial cost savings to healthcare systems. The goal of the present research project is to validate novel biomarkers of cholinergic dysfunction in human biofluids from individuals at high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, as well as to test the efficacy of a newly developed small-molecule therapeutic in vitro and in vivo using our unique transgenic rat models of Alzheimer’s disease pathology.Competitive candidates should have a PhD in relevant fields and have a strong background in fundamental aspects of neuroscience, neurochemistry, immunohistochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, and a serious interest in brain aging and neurodegenerative processes. The selected candidate will be involved in multidisciplinary work. They should be comfortable with manuscript preparation and co-supervision of graduate students. Experience in computational drug discovery and design would be a plus. The Cuello Group is well recognized internationally, and past trainees are occupying leading positions in North America and Europe. Lab members have received significant Prizes and Awards. The research activities of the Lab are co-directed with Dr Sonia Do Carmo (Research Associate) who has strong credentials as an outstanding molecular neurobiologist.Dr. Cuello’s lab is located at the McGill Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, active in innovative biomedical research with an emphasis on molecular pharmacology. The McGill Neuroscience community is extensive and of high caliber. The laboratory is located in an attractive area of the city of Montreal. The successful applicant will have access to a wide range of weekly seminars as well as professional development opportunities through McGill University.
