Primary Purpose: Successful individuals will join a highly collaborative research program within the Department of Food and Bioproduct Sciences focusing on the value-added utilization of plant-based ingredients in emulsion and colloid science. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a novel research project on improving the food application of oleosomes by modifying their extraction, structure and functionality.
Nature of Work: The successful individual will report directly to Prof. Supratim Ghosh and be expected to work both independently and as part of a team. The research will primarily involve work in the laboratory, in the pilot plant, or in joint university analytical facilities. The successful individual may also work alongside industrial stakeholders/partners. Travel associated with this position will be minor, primarily focused on presenting results to partners or at conferences and meeting industry partners. The research lab is well-equipped for studying emulsions and oleosomes and the modification of their rheology for food application.
Accountabilities: The successful individual is expected to help lead assigned research projects, contribute to the experimental design, collect, interpret and analyze data, write manuscripts/reports and present findings to stakeholders/conferences. The individual will also help mentor and train other students in the program and perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Must have an earned Ph.D. in Food Science (or in a relevant discipline) within the last 2 years.
Experience: Experience in emulsion science and rheology will be critical. Knowledge of oleosomes is considered an asset.
Skills: It is expected that individuals will have good laboratory skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
