IN A SNAPSHOT

Reporting to the Plant Manager & Corporate Controller, the Plant Controller is responsible for managing the overall financial operations of Zadi Foods Ltd. and Milano Bakeries Ltd and will provide accurate information to the plant management team and Corporate Finance, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing financial reports.

The Plant Controller will be responsible for directing and managing the manufacturing plant's accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting to top management and externally. The Plant Controller also maintains the manufacturing plant's accounting systems and implements changes as required and or directed.

WHERE YOU WILL SPEND YOUR TIME

FINANCIAL REPORTING:

  • Manage the accounting operations including the review and posting of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, daily production entry and statutory reporting.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly, quarterly and annual operating results for each plant.
  • Collaborate with corporate finance, external auditors, customers, and vendors.
  • Prepare and present financial information for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Collaborate with various internal teams on product pricing, costing and margins.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timelines of financial information.
  • Implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures.
  • Provides advice and guidance on all plant accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
  • Establish priorities within accounting group.
  • Collaborate with corporate finance on the year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements.
  • Responsible for the preparation of plant monthly financial statements and ensuring that all reporting requirements are met.
  • Presents financial reporting to various companies and agencies.
  • Generates reports of performance against budgets.
  • Assigns and authorizes along with plant manager purchase orders and invoices.

COSTING:

  • Maintain detailed product costing information as a basis for various analysis and decision making.
  • Implement and maintain systems for monitoring costing information by activity, category, and product.
  • Implement and maintain variance analyses for productivity, efficiency, and spending in order to provide operational managers with feedback on the activities under their responsibility.

BUSINESS PATNERING

  • Collaborate with operations to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control current processes which impact product and customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency.
  • Provide strategic analysis as required to drive improved decision making.
  • Conduct analyses to determine either to purchase or produce in supporting business decision making.
  • Conduct capital project evaluations using appropriate financial KPIs.
  • Collaborate closely with all departmental heads to identify any inefficiencies in processes and potential cost saving initiatives ensure timely realization of the identified costs savings.
  • Review accounts receivable aging each month and proactively follow-up on collections issues with subordinates.
  • Vendor Relationship Management – Advise treasury team for vendor payments and cash flow management.

ADMINISTRATIVE/MANAGEMENT

  • Hiring, training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • CPA professional accounting designation is required.
  • Minimum of (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of manufacturing accounting and financial management.
  • Management and or supervisory experience is required.
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role.
  • Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms.
  • Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and applications.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and analysis techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics an asset.
  • Knowledge of publicly traded companies.
  • Good project management skills and the ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward the work at hand.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Excellent time management and prioritizing skills
  • Travel required between two plant facilities.
