Job Description

The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City.The Engineering, Parks & Environment Department is looking for a temporary full time Streetscape Planner (Planner 1) for approximately two years. Reporting to the Manager of Public Realm Infrastructure, you will utilize your knowledge and skills in subject areas such as, urban design, sustainability, green infrastructure, transportation, land use planning, and accessible design to help achieve a high quality public realm experience through development.As the Streetscape Planner, you will review development applications and communicate requirements for off-site works for projects of all sizes based on their site context, design guidelines, relevant policy, and general public amenity needs. You will liaise with internal and external interest holders and the public to respond to inquiries, resolve conflicts, and provide information on matters related to the public realm. In addition, you will work with or lead policy, program, and process improvement work as required. Rate of Pay: $50.13 to $59.23 per hour (January 2024 rates) Pay Grade 28 - This position has a pay structure with five steps, which increase annually. Education:Candidates must have a university degree in an appropriate discipline plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related area (Urban Planning, Urban Design or Landscape Architecture), supplemented by some professional planning experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience:Additionally, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in streetscape design, reviewing technical drawings, strong interpersonal skills, sound knowledge and experience in municipal planning practices, the ability to manage multiple projects within tight timelines, exercise sound and independent professional judgement to resolve conflicts and negotiate win-win solutions. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia is also a requirement.
