Position Title: Placement/Clinical Supervisor

Department: Academics

Program: Personal Support Worker Program

Job Type: Part-time, Contract


Primary Purpose

Fleming College, Toronto Programs is a public college-private partnership between Fleming College and Trebas Institute, with academic delivery and student support services managed by Trebas Institute. We provide relevant business and health care programs which ensure our students meet the demands of today’s ever-changing job market. FCT is currently seeking an experienced Clinical Supervisor to teach in our Personal Support Worker Program.

The candidate must have knowledge and previous experience in teaching the program, site supervision, long term care, and demonstrated expertise in helping students become exceptional PSWs.


Specific Responsibilities Academic

  • Develop instructional materials for the assigned specific course (lesson plans e.g.: PowerPoint presentations, simulation scenarios, topics and skills-related videos, assignments, quizzes, and exams) in accordance with the Ministry and the Partner requirements.
  • Mark assessments and provide timely feedback.
  • Deliver lessons and classroom activities according to the schedule.
  • Respond to students’ concerns and inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Create an atmosphere conducive to learning and promotes an inclusive and respectful environment.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and encourage students to adhere to college policies and rules of conduct.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness in academic records.
  • Enhance the list of suggested supplemental readings available in online libraries or on the internet, and enhance the list of suggested supplemental websites.
  • Revise the assignment parameters in keeping with policy and guidelines.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review meetings as a part of the quality assurance process followed by the College.
  • Any rescheduling of lectures/holidays must be approved by the Academic Director in advance. However, any rescheduling due to emergencies will be accommodated.
  • Complete other administrative duties as assigned by Management.


Clinical Placement / Site Supervision

  • Monitor students’ attendance and observance of professionalism in clinical areas (wearing of college uniforms and ID card, etc.).
  • Encourage strict adherence to facility policies and regulations.
  • Oversees students’ performance in the placement facilities (interpersonal communication, teamwork, collaboration) and provision of safe, effective, empathic care to clients/residents.
  • Ensuring relevant competencies are met and graded accordingly.


Administrative

  • Attend and participate in academic meetings and professional development programs set by the College.
  • Monitor students’ attendance, assignment submission, classroom participation and academic performance.
  • Keep records of student interactions and progress reports private and confidential.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and the Academic Director.


Position Requirements

Education and Training Requirements:

Minimum of a diploma in Practical Nursing from an approved college, or equivalent.

Currently registered as a RN or RPN, licensed to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario, without any restrictions.

  • Minimum of two (2) years current, relevant work experience in a clinical environment preferably in a long-term care, community, or chronic care setting.
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach – GPA certification (preferred).
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Required.


Skills and qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of PSW teaching experience would be an asset.
  • One (1) year of clinical site supervision (highly preferred).
  • Knowledge and teaching skills in the following areas: PSW scope of practice and relevant legislations, anatomy and physiology, common disorders / diseases and related medications, safety, mobility, infection control, personal hygiene, nutrition and hydration, palliative care, mental health, skills application.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills when delivering lectures, discussions, and other classroom activities.
  • Basic mathematical skills to calculate medication dosages, scores on assignments and exams, and grades.
  • Basic computer skills to use presentation, word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet, and student information software, including familiarity with electronic charting software.
  • Willingness to commute to the college campus in Toronto to deliver in-person classes as directed.
  • Willingness to commute or travel to clinical facilities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to supervise students during clinical placement.
