The Opportunity:

ML6 has partnered with a local municipality in the search for a Payroll Supervisor to join their team on a 14-month contract.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead and manage the activities of the Payroll team.
  • Set performance targets and task allocations through the Region’s Performance Management framework.
  • Hire and evaluate staff, recommending training and development opportunities.
  • Prepare all payroll and accounting reports, perform audits, and fulfill internal and external (legislative) reporting requirements.
  • Supervise and manage the uploading of time data into the payroll system.
  • Ensure accurate processing of payroll calculations and deductions, including taxes and garnishments.
  • Guarantee timely and accurate processing of payroll payments (bi-weekly/weekly).
  • Interpret, apply, and ensure adherence to relevant legislation, internal policies, and union agreements.
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain accurate payroll processing through the SAP HR system, ensuring compliance with current legislation and testing SAP updates.
  • Conduct or oversee research and analysis to implement new legislative requirements impacting payroll processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvement initiatives and establish standards for new processes.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and must have a PCP, PLP, or CPM designation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience in payroll and accounting.
  • Excellent project planning skills and the ability to manage complex conflicting priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to work effectively with senior management and Regional staff at all levels.
  • Strong customer service, problem-solving, organizational, planning, communication, analytical, and negotiation skills are essential.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
