Job Description

The Payroll Specialist will help run Canadian payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, and is expected to manage day to day payroll operations for all employees, and support HR on payroll related topics.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Administer HOURLY - biweekly payroll for employees based in CanadaMaintain information of all employees using Pay Web.Determine biweekly premium deductions for group benefits (LTD, STD, AD&D, Life & Dep Life).Calculate and process statutory holiday pay and record on-call pay as requiredCalculate and record taxable benefits as they occur while ensuring compliance with CRAProcessing the tax filing in accordance with Alberta Filing standards. Complete ROE’s using CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) ROE via pay Web.Ensure that processes and procedures are compliant with legislation and internal guidelines.Assist the accounting team with payables and other non-payroll duties as required.Handle the administration of the electronic timekeeping system. Setup each employee profile, ensure valid data transfers to pay web.Perform other duties and assignments within the Finance department on an ad hoc basis.Maintain payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating, and inputting data.Receive and coordinate requests for leave and other absences on time records, benefits, and taxes.Handle changes in exemptions, job status, and job titles.Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in timesheet and payroll records.Generate payroll reports for record-keeping purposes or managerial review.Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent experience.5+ years of experience in payroll processing for Canada - ESSENTIAL.Proficiency with payroll and Timekeeping systems in particular Pay web, Advance Tracker and QuickBooks and Time Saver.Proficiency with Payroll compliance, Benefits, Payroll audit, Compensation and benchmarking analysis.Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite - Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel (pivot tables, macros).Good working knowledge of Canadian Employment Standards Legislation in Alberta.Competencies:Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.Strong and accurate data input, excellent accounting and book-keeping skills.Detail oriented and self-motivated with a commitment to working in a team environment as well as independently to meet deadlines and company objectives.Ability to work in a high stress environment.Fueling Brains is an equal opportunity workplace, and we are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard.
