Job Description

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of: Airport Response Specialist (Permanent / Rotation / Full-Time) Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, works as a rapid response specialist responding to staffing deficiencies at Northern Village airports. Providing support for airports radio communications, weather observing/reporting, and runway maintenance by following various operational directives and procedures to ensure the operational integrity of the airports and their various systems. Duties include but are not limited to: Add visual hourly weather observations to Human Weather Observation System (HWOS) data that is transmitted electronically to NavCanada; Communicate with pilots and vehicle operators on local weather conditions, air traffic, runway conditions, emergency situation and other information, as requested or required; Inspect and report runway surface conditions during winter operations; Provide on-site re-certification training to Observer/Communicators; Provide training and certification on Restricted Radio Operators License (aeronautical) to all Transportation Department staff; Operate heavy and light equipment in a safe and effective manner; Maintain runway surfaces, maneuvering areas, navigational aids and airport access roads; Complete as required Safety Management System (SMS) reports; Provide airport related training in all Nunavik communities; Perform other duties as required. The selected candidate will: Possess a Heavy Equipment Operator training diploma or equivalent education & experience; Have been an Observer/Communicator for at least 3 years. Ability to work long hours alone; Demonstrate a high standard of dependability, reliability, safety as well as good judgement, planning and problem solving skills; Possess or obtain a valid Restricted Radio Operator’s License from Industry Canada; Good communication and writing skills in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English or French; Have a very good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); Possess a valid provincial or territorial driver’s license; Be available to travel frequently in the Nunavik region. Place of work: Rotation 6-3 or 4-2 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 3 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly) or 4 weeks working in the Northern Villages, followed by 2 weeks paid leave; Salary: Min.: $58 466– Max. $100 085 yearly Other benefits : Lodging paid while working in the northern villages Meals and expenses paid while travelling in Nunavik Simplified Pension Plan: 6% employer, 4% employee Group insurance Vacation: 20 days/year Statutory holidays: 19 days The KRG is an equal opportunity employer.
