Overview

This Operations and Sustainability Manager reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for assisting in the administration, planning, budgeting and direction for the operations of the Centre including front and back of house support services, technical services, conversion, custodial services, facility security and control, and equipment inventory control. Responsible for the implementation and oversight of sustainability initiatives. Ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by monitoring the Operations budget, and performs related day-to-day responsibilities as required. This role will pay a salary of $55,000 to $75,000. Job expires 8/31/2024.

Responsibilities

  1. Assume responsibility in the overall day-to-day operations and maintenance of the venue.
  2. Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  3. Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for facility maintenance and operations; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures.
  4. Participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.
  5. Identify, develop and oversee Sustainability initiatives for the venue. Point person for venue involvement in GOAL program.
  6. Coordinate the set-up of events with the Event Manager and the Operations Supervisor, including facility arrangements, concessionaires, and vendors; direct and monitor the work of contractors, engineers, and architects on building projects.
  7. Oversee facility security staffing and Building Control Room operations.
  8. Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies.
  9. Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets, and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes to pertinent Federal, Provincial, and Local regulations.
  10. Develop and maintain an accurate record-keeping system including equipment maintenance and inventory logs.
  11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
  12. Oversee Housekeeping operations for event, post-event, and non-event needs.
  13. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including overnights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended number of consecutive days.
  14. Coordinate facility arrangements and monitor the work of contractors and suppliers; including any equipment rentals. Report any issues or concerns to Director of Operations immediately.
  15. Ensure staff are working safely, efficiently and are aware of proper safety guidelines and procedures. Meet with operations staff on a regular basis to address any concerns and to ensure open communication and dialogue within the Dept.

Qualifications

Minimum of five(5+) years’ experience in an operations position in an arena, convention center, or public assembly facility with knowledge of set up/housekeeping and event coordination including progressive supervisory responsibility. High School Diploma (or equivalent) required. Familiarity with OSHA requirements. Familiarity with sustainability protocols and programs. Knowledge of boilers, chillers, refrigeration, and ice making helpful. Strong interpersonal skills required; including excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and an extended number of consecutive days.
