Job Description

Position: Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

Schedule: Monday to Friday (On-Site) 

Location: Fraserwood & 6 Road

Reporting to our OHS Manager, the Occupational Health & Safety Specialist (OHS Specialist) will be primarily responsible for developing and delivering appropriate OHS training initiatives, assisting departmental leaders in achieving their local Health & Safety objectives, and administering our Claims Management and GRTW processes. In addition, the OHS Specialist will track and report on associated Health & Safety KPI’s and perform a strong supporting role to the manager to create a strong behaviour-based safety culture at Fine Choice Foods.

Summ! Responsibilities:

  • Develop material and train employees on Health & Safety requirements.
  • Deliver new/returning employees orientation training.
  • Formalize training & development for employees on safety.
  • Monitor WSBC Claims Management.
  • Manage our GRTW Processes.
  • JHSC chairperson (guides, collaborates, and drives safety culture).
  • Responsible for managing First Aid coverage compliance with WCB legislation.
  • Responsible for managing and monitoring our Mobile Equipment certification program.
  • Leads or supports all workplace safety investigations including near-miss incidents.
  • Participate in Occupational Therapist worksite visits.
  • Monitoring and implementing corrective actions arising from investigations, audits, etc.
  • Conduct Workplace Inspections
  • Develop H&S policies and programs with support from Manager.
  • Collect, disseminate, and action monthly Health & Safety KPI’s and metrics (injury tracking, inspections, project support, orientation).
  • Complete other special projects, duties, as assigned.

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred, or
  • 1-3 years of OHS experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Intellectually curious and eager to solve challenges.
  • Effective people leadership skills and the ability to collaborate at different levels.
  • You have a strong eye for details and are a creative problem-solver.
  • You’re a quick-learner with a proven ability to apply learnings effectively and creatively 
  • Second language preferred and Mandarin or Cantonese speaking is an advantage.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation

This role offers an annual salary between $50,000 - $70,000 depending on years of experience and qualifications, and comes with employer paid healthcare benefits, health spending account, and bonus pay to make a compelling and competitive compensation package.
