We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health Practitioner to join our Occupational Health, Safety, Wellness, and Infection Prevention & Control (OHSW & IPAC) team in a Temporary Part-Time role.
Job Description
The Occupational Health Practitioner is responsible for responding to occupational illness and injury, coordinating health surveillance and disease prevention programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance with the all applicable acts and regulations.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-placement health assessments and immunization reviews for prospective healthcare workers
- Conduct skin integrity assessments when required
- Perform routine tuberculosis surveillance which may include TB skin tests
- Administer vaccinations and support annual vaccination campaigns
- Perform all activities to support outbreaks and communicable disease exposures including contact tracing, risk assessments, and post-exposure protocols
- Review clinical records, lab results, and health data to advise on required or recommended vaccinations
- Monitor and respond to absence notices from health care workers; assess and provide return to work recommendations
- Provide first aid and emergency response as required
- Provide guidance on available resources and support access to EFAP and mental health resources
- Educate and counsel health care workers on health risks, health promotion, and disease prevention
- Meet with employees who have work-related injuries and review WSIB process including offering early and safe return to work
- Conduct and support the N-95 respirator fit testing program
- Identify workplace health risks and corrective actions
- Support the absence management program
- Report needle stick injuries and occupational exposures to appropriate parties as required (e.g., WSIB, JHSC, and trade union)
- Ensure timely documentation and maintenance of accurate, confidential employee health records in accordance with legal and organizational standards
- Assist with compliance monitoring related to regulatory standards such as Toronto Public Health and Public Health Ontario.

Qualifications
- Current registration in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible and related experience
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and WSIB policies required
- Completion of or actively enrolled in attaining credentials in the field of Occupational Health & Safety, Disability Management, and/or Infection Control
- Experience supporting the development and delivery of occupational health initiatives and compliance programs
- Sound knowledge of communicable diseases surveillance protocols and guidelines for health care workers
- Demonstrated ability to utilize the nursing process and advanced assessment skills in planning, implementing, and evaluation
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills, including ability to work collaboratively across departments with multidisciplinary teams
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with Parklane preferred
- Proven attendance and punctuality.
- Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
