Job Description

Faculty of Nursing

(Permanent Position)

DUTIES
The successful applicant will be responsible for instructing and assisting nursing students in practical techniques in laboratory courses for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) program at the Happy Valley - Goose Bay Satellite site.

Duties include working with the course instructor to design, prepare, and teach labs and/or experiential learning opportunities; researching current evidence based trends in clinical practice to modify lab topics and supplies as needed; collaborating with faculty and other lab instructors on content and teaching strategies including simulation and operating simulation equipment and designing lab exercises; preparing teaching aids; facilitating student learning during lab sessions using a participatory or collaborative approach; marking and grading lab reports and evaluating student performance; supervising student assistants; assisting students outside of formal laboratory periods and providing remedial help; ensuring an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies; ensuring smooth implementation of the lab schedule; assuring awareness of, and appropriate training of, laboratory policies and procedures, emergency action plans, and updating safety guidelines and emergency response plans as needed; coordinating glucometer testing and training; coordinating documentation access training; supporting student access and training for other applications that may be required for clinical practice; supervising classroom course exams and other evaluations; and performing other related duties as required. Some evening and weekend hours may be required depending on lab scheduling and to allow students to practice in the lab.


QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in nursing, including experience in acute care and community settings; graduation with an undergraduate degree in nursing, supplemented by a master's degree (preferably in nursing); or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Certificate of Registration from the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador is required. Teaching experience in a post-secondary environment would be an asset. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong computer, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work independently and in team environments. Knowledge of current nursing practices and laboratory operations or maintenance practices is essential for this role. Considerable knowledge in the areas of instruction, assessment, and support for student learning is critical.

SALARY $80,431 - $84,589 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
