Job Description

Preference will be given to qualified regular part-time employees within the Part Time Support Staff bargaining unit at Sheridan College. Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered. Reporting to the Operations Manager of Nursing Labs and Clinical, the incumbent will support faculty and students in the Nursing Skills Lab.

What You’ll Be Doing Supporting and assisting lab instructors and students in assigned lab classes; Supporting and assisting students during open practice times; Role-modeling professional behavior; Supporting and assisting with simulations including both set up and take down of equipment; Ensuring students are signing in and out of lab; Maintaining lab equipment which includes reporting any broken or damaged equipment; Preparing labs with all necessary equipment and materials for lab classes; Ensuring the lab is clean, safe and organized; Promoting and conducting safe lab practices; Assisting with practical lab exams and open lab practice; Attending lab meetings when scheduled; Performing other related duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements: A Community College Diploma or a University Degree (preferred) in Nursing; Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse without restrictions; A minimum of 3 years directly related nursing experience (Medical/Surgical or LTC); Demonstrated excellence in nursing practices and a proven commitment to on-going professional development is required; Experience with Simulation facilitation and high-fidelity mannequins is an asset; Current CPR and First Aid certification; Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
