Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

The Provincial Nursing Float Pool provides nurses in Manitoba opportunities for flexible work in different regions, communities and facilities to support diverse areas and specialties. Nurses may identify a list of their preferred health region(s), facility(ies), and work location/specialty area(s) to enhance their nursing skills and scope of practice.

Main Function:Under the general supervision of the Director of Health Services and in collaboration with the Program Teams, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Nursing staff including R.N.s, L.P.N.s, R.P.N.s.
  • Support staff including U.A.s, N.A.s, U.C.s and/or applicable technicians.
  • Teaching and learning activities.
  • Nursing practice standards.
  • Professional and Self Development.

NOTE: The priority and percentages of each of the above functions will vary throughout the year and possibly from year to year.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of four years recent related nursing experience with demonstrated competency in a defined area of clinical nursing practice.
  • Previous experience in teaching, education and program development and evaluation is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).

Note: In certain circumstances, certification as an instructor in a specialty training course (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) may be a requirement.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the College of Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g., Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Current CPR (Targeted Responder) certification is required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Certificate or certification in a related specialty area preferred.
  • Competency with word processing and presentation programs, required.
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Initiates and supports change.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg (25 lbs.)
  • Incumbent demonstrates ability to prioritize work, deal with interruptions, re-prioritize as required and ensure dedicated/focused time for strategic planning.
  • Travel to other health care facilities within the SDO will be required.
  • A valid Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license and access to a personal motor vehicle are required.
